Did you know that it’s possible to leave Rio de Janeiro and go all the way to Lima, the capital of Peru, in just one bus? Yes, and this route is known as the longest bus trip in the world! It’s more than six thousand kilometers, passing through different Brazilian states, and this adventure starts in the Marvelous City. We’ll tell you more about this adventure here!
The bus journey is made by the Trans Acreana company
The first company to be responsible for the “world’s longest bus ride”, which goes from Brazil to Peru by road, was the Peruvian company Expreso Internacional Ormeño.
The company was founded by businessman Joaquín Ormeño Cabrera, but closed its doors in 2020 due to pandemic restrictions. However, in March 2023, the Brazilian bus company Trans Acreana took over the route.
According to the official information on the Trans Acreana website, the buses pick up and set down every 15 days, always on Thursdays.
In addition, the buses are modern and equipped with international safety standards. They also have filtered water, Wi-Fi and highly trained staff to ensure a smooth and safe journey.
Finally, it’s worth adding that the trip includes three stops a day for passengers to wash up and eat.
The world’s longest bus trip covers different states in Brazil
If you want to take the world’s longest bus trip, the adventure begins in Rio de Janeiro. From the Marvelous City, the bus makes its way through different Brazilian states, such as São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, Rondônia and Acre, until it reaches the border with Peru.
And it’s not over: the journey continues through the Peruvian Amazon, crosses the Andes and takes the Transoceanic Highway to Lima, the capital of Peru. In total, there are five days on the bus, more than 120 hours and 6,000 kilometers covered.
You need to be well prepared to face this journey!
For adventurers thinking of crossing the country and getting to Peru by bus, a word of warning! First of all, it’s important to prepare financially to cover the cost of the trip, as the ticket costs R$1,300 (one way!).
Physical and psychological preparation is also essential! This is because, in addition to the fatigue caused by many hours and many kilometers on the road until you reach your destination, the temperature range varies greatly, from 40 degrees to 0 degrees.
However, there are many rewards along the way, such as the breathtaking landscapes of Brazil and Latin America!
So, are you up for it ?
