The Paixão Nacional exhibition tells the story of soccer from the first World Cup
You can already tell the World Cup is coming with the painted streets and themed arenas set up for watching the games. On top of that, the World Cup always brings that touch of nostalgia and hope that unites generations—from those who’ve already seen the Brazilian national team win the title to those eagerly awaiting a sixth championship.
And it is in this spirit that the Paixão Nacional exhibition arrives in Rio de Janeiro in June, telling the story of soccer from the first World Cup in 1930 to the present day.
The historical collection was assembled by collector Alex Braga, who also curated the exhibition, which demonstrates how soccer has been and always will be part of Brazilians’ lives. The exhibition has been running since 2014, the year Brazil hosted the World Cup, and has already held six editions in four different states.
Historical memorabilia, jerseys, and even a piece of the net are part of the collection
The Paixão Nacionalexhibition takes you on a true journey through time, with over 250 rare items that are part of the history of soccer and the World Cup.
Among them is Domingos da Guia’s passport from the 1938 World Cup. Also on display are autographed jerseys worn by Pelé, Garrincha, Romário, and other stars.
The exhibition also includes photographs, vintage graphic materials, chairs, and the original plaque from the Maracanã’s inauguration in 1950. Even a piece of the net from the 2014 final is among the items in this collection— and much more!
Finally, in addition to the physical exhibits, the exhibition also offers a complete immersion experience, featuring audio clips of goals and theme songs from various tournaments. A leisure area will also be available, featuring video games, sitting soccer, soccer pool, foosball, and table soccer.
The Paixão Nacional exhibition runs from June 5 to 14 at Fashion Mall, and admission is free!
