Ballet is the art that transforms movement into poetry, capable of telling stories and thrilling the audience with every leap, turn and gesture. At Ballet of Lights Rio de Janeiro, you’ll experience a magical show that brings “Sleeping Beauty”, Tchaikovsky’s great classic, back to life with a unique contemporary reinterpretation.
The story of Princess Aurora takes on a new dimension on the stage of the PRIO Theater. As the lights go down, talented dancers light up the stage in costumes adorned with fiber optic lights, creating a perfect fusion between the past and the future.
What is Ballet of Lights?
At the heart of Ballet of Lights is the essence of ballet: telling a story through the body. A stage immersed in darkness, where the dancers, dressed in costumes illuminated by fiber optic lights, move like characters from a shimmering dream.
Each movement, each dance step, is accentuated by a mystical glow, where the dancers’ bodies look like brushes drawing the lines of music and silence in the air, expressing the inexplicable, such as deep feelings and moments of pure transcendence.
The ballet and the show
With roots in the splendor of the Italian Renaissance courts, ballet was born as an expression of nobility. Over time, however, this art crossed palaces and borders, conquering hearts around the world. In Ballet of Lights, ballet breaks barriers once again – and invites everyone to be enchanted by a contemporary and luminous version of Sleeping Beauty.
Through dance, the show takes the audience through the fable of Princess Aurora and her enchanted sleep, exploring deep feelings in a sensitive journey through Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece. For 60 minutes, where every detail is designed to transport the audience to the universe of fantasy, the stage is transformed into an enchanted kingdom, where emotions are revealed in gestures and music wraps each step with tenderness and passion.
In addition to combining traditional ballet with futuristic visual elements, this show offers audiences a new way of experiencing ballet, whether they are experts in plié or not, Ballet of Lights Rio de Janeiro is a celebration of art in all its forms.
