One of the most anticipated Christmas events in Rio’s mountainous region is about to begin! The Imperial Christmas of Petrópolis will be inaugurated on December 5th, with various attractions spread throughout the city’s iconic streets and spaces. Check out more details of this celebration!
Christmas event takes over Petrópolis and delights locals and tourists alike!

Less than two hours from the capital, Petrópolis is one of the most popular destinations for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Rio. Even more so at this time of year, when the mountain town is transformed with lots of lights and Christmas decorations.
Among the most eagerly awaited events in the region is the Imperial Christmas of Petrópolis, which takes over the streets, the most famous tourist attractions and even the nearby districts.
In this edition, according to information from the Sou Petrópolis website, the Crystal Palace alone, which is the main stage for the festival, will host more than 80 attractions!
In addition, other iconic areas of Petrópolis, such as Praça da Liberdade and Rua do Imperador, will also receive themed activities and decorations.
What’s more, Itaipava, Nogueira and other nearby districts are also part of Imperial Christmas.
Shows, theater, choir and more: Petrópolis’ Imperial Christmas program

Petrópolis’ Imperial Christmas is scheduled to take place from December 5 to January 10, 2026. And the event promises many surprises and special attractions!
On the program, Christmas shows, theater, workshops, performances and a gastronomic space will make the Crystal Palace even more beautiful and festive! And something new: the traditional Santa Claus House is also set to return, occupying the Palace gardens.
Another highlight of the festivities is the big concert bringing together the city’s main choirs, scheduled for December 19, at a venue to be decided.
There will also be special decorations in various squares and streets around the city, recreating the magic of European Christmas markets, but with a very Brazilian flavor!
