This weekend, the 29th Rio de Janeiro Vinyl Fair takes place at the Institute of Architects of Brazil in Catete. The 29th edition of the Vinyl Fair will honor João Parahyba, founder of the legendary Trio Mocotó. The band, founded in 1968, gained worldwide fame by recording and performing with Jorge Ben Jor over the course of decades!
The percussionist will be at the event and will receive the Ivan Miguel Conti Trophy in person. A tribute named after the late drummer “Mamão” of the group Azymuth.
Over the course of recent editions, the Fair has presented the trophy to great legends of Brazilian music, such as Jards Macalé, Sandra de Sá, Roberto Menescal, João Donato, Marcos Valle, Wilson das Neves, and Azymuth, among others.
Over 90,000 LPs for sale, DJs, and many attractions at the Rio Vinyl Fair
Now in its 29th edition, the Rio de Janeiro Vinyl Fair is the city’s largest event dedicated to vinyl culture. And it promises to deliver a very special day this weekend!
The Discos N’Agulha (Som Livre) project will be present, exploring the richness of Brazilian music through DJs, with sets played entirely on vinyl. In addition, there will be exclusive sets by rapper BNegão, DJ Marcello MBgroove (DJ, researcher, and musical director of the Rio Vinyl Fair), and Paula Neves, from the Discos de Domingo project.
It’s also worth noting that Beijinho do Brasil will be at the fair. The Rio-based label, dedicated to vinyl singles and increasingly found in the bags of DJs around the world, will perform an exclusive set and showcase a selection of releases from its catalog for sale, including some titles that are already sold out.
And it doesn’t stop there! Throughout the day, several DJs will also present their vinyl sets, specialists in a wide variety of styles. Around 60 exhibitors from all over Brazil will be present with records and CDs, including Tropicália Discos, Garimpo, Dom Discos, and Bibi Discos.
The event will also feature the launch of the new vinyl edition of Tim Maia’s “Racional Vol. 2,” released by Três Selos Rocinante, a performance by the instrumental quartet Brass Cubas, and a book about 1980s rock in Brasília .
