Free exhibition takes a tour of Japanese film production

The Japanese Film Festival is a partnership between the Japan Foundation and the Consulate General of Japan in Rio de Janeiro with the CCBB. In addition to strengthening cultural ties between the two countries, the goal is to bring the Brazilian public closer to the aesthetic and narrative richness of contemporary Japanese cinema.
Thus, the exhibition brings together works released between 2021 and 2022, offering the public a tour of Japan’s recent film production.
Which films will be screened at the Japanese Film Festival at the CCBB?

In total, there will be three contemporary films : Ito, Son of Fish, and The Road to History.
In Ito (2021), a shy girl from the countryside chooses a part-time job at a “maid cafĂ©, “ where she serves customers dressed as a maid. It is a drama about growing up and family ties.
In Filho de Peixe (2022), director Shuichi Okita paints a whimsical portrait of real-life fish expert Masayuki Miyazawa, who goes by the name Meebo on screen. The film follows Meebo’s fascination with studying fish from his difficult early years as an outcast to his rise to fame among friends, family, and celebrities.
Finally, The Road to History (2022) is a period drama that tells the secret story of Ino Tadataka, who completed the map of Japan in 1821. However, as the project progresses, a surprising fact is discovered .
