Anyone who thinks that Rio de Janeiro is all about the Marvelous City is mistaken. Throughout the state, there are several other corners that attract many visitors for their natural beauty, local cuisine or even for their much quieter vibe than the capital. This is the case of Italva, very close to the border between Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, which has many options for those looking for fun, good food and incredible scenery. Find out what to do there!
Stone wall that crosses the river is a tourist attraction in Italva

Italva is located in the state of Rio de Janeiro, almost six hours from the capital. But the trip is well worth it!
That’s because this town has stunning natural landscapes, including the “stone wall”, which has become an attraction among locals and tourists alike. And with good reason!
According to the oldest residents, the wall was built in the 1930s to catch fish. However, even though it no longer serves this purpose, this rock formation that crosses the River Muriaé from one bank to the other offers an incredible view. You can also relax and bathe in the shallow waters!
Farms and more historic buildings are options for sightseeing
For those who like to hit the town and enjoy historical walks, Italva also has some unmissable tours.
The municipality is home to Casarão da Fazenda Boa Vista, a historical heritage site dating back to the colonial period. The house still preserves its old architecture and is a chance to revisit the past and understand Italva’s culture and customs.
In addition to the mansion, the Mother Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição stands right in the center of town, with its imposing architecture, and is a place of great devotion for locals and visitors.
‘Capital of Quibe’: the strong Arab influence on Italva’s cuisine

Finally, we can’t forget to mention the strong Arab influence in the region, due to the Lebanese who settled in the town at the beginning of the 20th century.
No wonder Italva became known as the “capital of kibbeh”. There’s even the Quibe Festival, which always takes place on the second Sunday in September to celebrate this delicacy!
On a daily basis, the dish can be found in many different forms and is very common in bars, restaurants, snack bars and steakhouses.
So, are you in the mood for a getaway to Italva?
