Rio’s municipal bus fare rises to R$4.70
As of January 5th, Rio de Janeiro’s municipal buses started running at a new price – a more expensive one!
This is because the R$4.30 fare has been readjusted and, according to a decree published in the Official Gazette, will now be R$4.70.
This increase also applies to the BRT, VLT, vans and even the “cabritinhos”, as the city’s complementary transportation system is known.
Rio de Janeiro trains: fare increase in February
The trains have also been readjusted, but the increase only came into effect in February.
As a result, the fare of R$7.10 changed to R$7.60 on February 2.
It is worth noting, however, that users of the Bilhete Único Intermunicipal who are beneficiaries of the social fare continue to pay the same amount: R$5.
Fare increase also affects cab fares
The increase in fares for public transport also has an impact on private transportation in the city.
This is because, also according to the decree in the Official Gazette , cabs are authorized to adjust their fares and the fare will now be R$6.20.
In practice, this means that from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., from Monday to Saturday, flag 1 will be R$3.65. Flag 2, used at night , from 9pm to 6am, as well as Sundays and public holidays, will be R$4.38. Taxi drivers who disrespect these rules may be penalized.
Metro: the most expensive trip in Rio de Janeiro
Thought it was over? You thought wrong! As of April 12, the Metrô Rio fare will also increase!
The fare will rise from R$7.50 to R$7.90, making it the most expensive ride in Rio de Janeiro!
This increase of 5.33% was authorized by Agetransp (the Regulatory Agency for Concessioned Public Transport Services). However, it is worth emphasizing that the annual readjustment was provided for in the concession contract.
It is also important to note that the social fare remains at R$5 for users of the Bilhete Único Intermunicipal who receive the benefit.
