What to do at FAUST? Live painting, workshops, and talks
FAUST will take place not only on the neighborhood’s streets but also at iconic venues in Santa Teresa. Among them are Glória Maria Park, Odylo Costa Neto Square, the Laurinda Santos Lobo Cultural Center, and the Benjamin Constant House Museum.
At Glória Maria Park, 20 artists will paint canvases live over the weekend, accompanied by a soundtrack from DJ Kajaman playing 100% vinyl sets. The works will be on display at Galeria Túnel through August 30.
Meanwhile, Odylo Costa Neto Square will host, among other activities, a lambe-lambe workshop with LF Zod. In addition, there will be a stencil workshop with Marcio SWK, circus activities for families with Bream Coy, and, starting at 6:30 p.m., a VJ projection by artist Chico Abreu. Chico is known for his visual work at concerts by Caetano Veloso, Titãs, and Racionais MC’s.
The program also includes a series of free talks, curated by Alíne Rodovalho, president of the HUB RUA Institute. Among the confirmed participants is Pedro Rajão, creator of the Negro Muro project, which has already honored Marielle Franco, Cartola, and Clementina de Jesus in murals throughout Rio.
Art, gastronomy, and ceramics on the neighborhood circuit
The neighborhood’s restaurants are also getting into the FAUST spirit and will be preparing dishes and drinks inspired by the festival’s theme.
At Mandala Residência Gastronômica, for example, the Therezópolis Lounge offers games, music, and a dish created especially for the occasion.
Another really cool new feature is that Carolina Pacini, an Argentine artist based in Rio, will install 30 new ceramic tiles alongside the murals painted during the event.
Each piece features the artist’s name, the title of the work, the year, and two QR codes. One links to the Visite Santa Teresa portal and the other to Spotify, where the public can hear the artist explain the creation process.
