Cariocas love a boteco! That’s why Comida di Buteco is one of the city ‘s favorite events, in which various bars in Rio compete with delicious snacks! The best part: Comida di Buteco 2025 already has a date set and has also released the Rio establishments that are taking part in this edition. We’ll tell you more details here!
What will Comida di Buteco 2025 be like?
Comida di Buteco has been running since the 2000s and began in Belo Horizonte with just 10 bars taking part.
The idea was to recapture the authentic essence of the city’s butecos (with a “u”, as the locals usually call them). However, the local competition soon conquered other cities and began to expand throughout the country. What’s more, even the New York Times has talked about this delicious competition!
This year’s edition follows the same format as previous editions. Each participating bar offers a dish from the competition, whose theme is the 25th anniversary of the event, and which costs a set amount.
When ordering the snack, the public receives a ballot to rate their experience, taking into account not only the food, but also the service, hygiene and temperature of the drink!
Rio de Janeiro has been taking part since 2028 and, for Comida di Buteco 2025, 94 bars from different regions of the city and state are competing for the title of best buteco!

By the way, did you know that in the last edition, the winner of the Best Buteco in Brazil was a bar from Rio de Janeiro? Bar Peixaria Divina Providência, located in Irajá, in the North Zone, won in 2024 with its Bolinho de Moqueca with codfish and black olive pesto!
It’s worth remembering that the competition has two stages. The first is regional, in which the public and judges from the city itself vote. Next, the regional champions are evaluated by a new panel of judges, who then elect the Best Buteco in Brazil.
Comida di Buteco 2025 starts on April 11 and runs until May 11! Who are we going with?
