Em junho, cidades do mundo inteiro recebem as paradas do orgulho LGBTQIA+, que comemoram o orgulho e a cultura de pessoas lésbicas, gays, bissexuais e transgênero (LGBT), dentre outros grupos, como pessoas intersexo e assexuais. Mas você sabe por que motivo nós consideramos junho como o mês do orgulho LGBTQIA+?
A Rebelião de Stonewall
Em 28 de junho de 1969, ocorreu nos Estados Unidos a chamada Rebelião de Stonewall. Ela foi uma série de manifestações violentas e espontâneas de membros da comunidade LGBT contra uma invasão policial ao bar Stonewall Inn, no bairro Greenwich Village, em Nova York. Considera-se esses motins como o evento mais importante que levou ao movimento moderno de libertação gay e à luta pelos direitos LGBT no país.
Logo mais, uma multidão se uniu à causa. As tensões entre a polícia e os residentes homossexuais de Greenwich Village irromperam em uma série de protestos. Dentro de semanas, moradores do bairro concentraram os seus esforços para promover de lugares “LGBT friendly“. Isto é, onde gays e lésbicas pudessem frequentar sem medo de prisão.
Mês do orgulho LGBTQIA+: uma homenagem à rebelião
Após a Rebelião de Stonewall, fundaram-se várias organizações de direitos homossexuais nos EUA e no mundo. Em 28 de junho de 1970, as primeiras marchas do orgulho gay aconteceram em Nova York, Los Angeles, São Francisco e Chicago, em comemoração ao aniversário dos motins.
Marchas semelhantes ocorreram em outras cidades, e hoje, as paradas LGBTQIA+ acontecerem anualmente no mundo inteiro. É uma forma de relembrar as conquistas feitas em Stonewall e celebrar todos os membros da comunidade.
Dessa forma, junho se tornou o mês do orgulho LGBTQIA+. Para os membros da comunidade no Rio de Janeiro, alguns eventos já estão acontecendo pela cidade – e ainda tem muito mais até o final do mês!
