Theatrical tour takes you back in time to tell the stories of the Municipal Theatre

To learn more about the curiosities and stories of this Carioca icon in a playful way, the Municipal Theater is offering something new this month.
Lasting an hour and a half, a group of actors, dressed in period costumes, circulate through the temple of dance, mixing different languages of theater and music, to tell the story of the space.
The script is written by writer and cultural producer Daniela Chindler, based on historical research by Luciene Carris and directed by Augusto Pessoa.
The idea is not only to introduce the Municipal Theater to the public. It’s also to make a connection with the history of the city itself, such as the inauguration of Avenida Central (now Rio Branco), full of jambeiros and brazilwood.

On stage, the actors/singers take turns, punctuating with amusing, curious and poetic stories. The theatrical tour includes the audience, balconies and dressing rooms of the theater, as well as the Assyrius Hall, sharing the history of the building, the productions and the people who have passed through it.
Arthur Azevedo, Chiquinha Gonzaga, Isadora Duncan, João do Rio, Abdias do Nascimento and Fernanda Montenegro are just some of the characters who lend passages from their lives to the script!
