Theater in Rio de Janeiro
1 – Theatro Municipal
This is one of the most imposing and beautiful buildings in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Located in Cinelândia, in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, the Municipal Theater stands out as an important figure in the cultural panorama of Brazil.
The building was inaugurated in 1909 and usually hosts operas, ballet and dance performances, among other kinds of shows. Since its foundation, the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro has undergone four major renovations and has more than 2,250 seats.

2 – Riachuelo Rio Theater
When looking for a theater in Rio de Janeiro, take this place into consideration too. The Riachuelo Rio Theater opened in 2016, but is housed in a very old building dating back to the 19th century.
This venue has a multi-platform character, with lectures, films and concerts. Although it has been renovated inside, the exterior façade retains its old-fashioned charm.

3 – Banco do Brasil Cultural Center
The Banco do Brasil Cultural Center, or simply CCBB, is an important place in the cultural environment of Rio and Brazil. It hosts a number of cool art exhibitions.
However, the CCBB also hosts cinemas and theaters. This cultural venue in Rio opened in 1989, in a building from the early 20th century, and also attracts visitors because of its spectacular interior.

4 – Petrobras Rival Theater

Founded in the 1930s, this venue hosts various plays, presentations and concerts. At the time of its creation, Teatro Rival caught everyone’s attention because of the size of its stage, divided into three parts. It was also decorated in three colors: blue, pink and silver.

5 – City of Arts
Cidade das Artes is the largest cultural complex in Latin America and, in this immense space, you can enjoy everything – including a good play!
It was inaugurated in 2013 and has a special and varied program. No wonder it has welcomed more than three million visitors and countless artistic performances since it opened!
