The schedule was finalized following testing and based on demand
Renovation work on the Silvestre Branch Line of the traditional Santa Teresa Trolley system was completed in early June 2026.
Following a period of operational testing and in response to demand from residents and visitors, a schedule was established for the branch line’s operation.
Thus, there will be four daily trips, Monday through Friday, departing from Carioca Station. Departures are at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m.
According to the Department of Transportation, the work included extensive infrastructure improvements, such as the renewal of the track, restructuring of the overhead power lines, and repaving of the road surface, restoring the line to its original route. The system celebrates its 130th anniversary on September 1.

The return of the Silvestre Branch trams marks an important moment for those who live in and visit the Santa Teresa neighborhood .
This is because the section, which had been out of service for over 20 years, is one of the most iconic in the region. Offering one of the neighborhood’s most beautiful views, it benefits not only residents who rely on public transportation but also provides tourists with a unique experience.
Approximately 5.84 kilometers long, the Silvestre Branch route received about 667 metric tons of new tracks, 27,800 square meters of paving, the installation of a storm drainage system, and nearly 6 km of upgraded overhead wiring.
These improvements were aimed at enhancing safety standards and operational reliability .
The complete revitalization will also allow for future integration of the streetcars with theCorcovado train, and it is estimated to benefit more than 40,000 people.
