Rio de Janeiro wins award for ‘Best Beach Destination’ and more

This was the 32nd edition of the World Travel Awards, one of the main prizes in the world tourism sector. And, among the most varied cities, Rio de Janeiro stood out as the best tourist destination in South America!
Thus, the Marvelous City took three outstanding titles. With so many incredible beaches and exuberant views, it was no surprise that Rio won the award for ‘Best Beach Destination’.
However, Rio de Janeiro also won ‘Best Events and Festivals Destination in the region’, showing the city’s potential for hosting concerts and big parties.
It also won ‘Best Destination for City Breaks’, i.e. short trips to big cities.
In all, Brazil received 11 nominations – and won six!

In addition to Rio de Janeiro, other Brazilian cities also received awards at this year’s World Travel Awards.
Among the highlights, Tivoli Ecoresort, in Bahia, won ‘Best Beach Resort in South America’. Clara Arte Resort, in Inhotim, Minas Gerais, won in the ‘Best Family Resort’ category .
What are the World Travel Awards, considered the ‘Oscars of Tourism’?
For those who don’t know, the World Travel Awards was created in 1993 and is known as the ‘Oscars of Tourism’. This is because the awards recognize excellence in all the main sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries worldwide.
The awards hold regional ceremonies throughout the year and celebrate with a grand finale at the end of the year. The most recent ceremony took place on September 27 in Mexico.
