You don’t even have to wait for summer to arrive to enjoy the sun and the best beaches in Rio de Janeiro. After all, in the Marvelous City, there’s no shortage of incredible seaside spots with soft sand and crystal blue beaches.
So it’s not easy to make a list of the best beaches in Rio de Janeiro, because there are so many. However, take note of our suggestions!
Ipanema
No wonder it has already been voted one of the 25 most beautiful beaches in the world!
After all, over 2 km long, Ipanema has fine sand and crystal blue water that looks great in any photo. As one of Rio’s most famous beaches, it’s always very busy, but it’s a must-see. You can’t come to Rio and not stop by!
Copacabana
The Little Princess of the Sea also deserves its worldwide fame! With all its beauty, Copacabana Beach is great for exercising along the shore – and on the closed lanes at weekends.
What’s more, the bars, restaurants, people on bicycles and tourists strolling along give Copacabana a lot of rhythm and life! And of course, a good swim in the sea is a must!
Leblon
Located in a prime area of Rio de Janeiro, Leblon Beach was a frequent setting for Manoel Carlos’ soap operas. But this place is more than fiction. It’s real and one of the best beaches in Rio de Janeiro
It’s a good place to spend the day or watch the sunset. What’s more, it has a great infrastructure, with shops, hotels and restaurants all around it! To feel like a real “Helena”!
Red Beach
Praia Vermelha, located in Urca, is a real treasure – not so hidden – in Rio de Janeiro!
Just as beautiful, but off the beaten track, it’s perfect for those who enjoy calm waters, peace and quiet. But here’s the golden tip: it’s smaller than the others, so get there early to make sure you get the best spot!
Barra da Tijuca
Praia da Barra, on the other hand, is one of the largest beaches in the whole of the state of Rio de Janeiro, with a length of around 15 km!
It’s also a real haven for those who want to get away from the South Zone and enjoy Rio’s West Zone, as well as being a sure destination for surfers and those who enjoy kitesurfing and windsurfing.
Prainha
Prainha is only a few meters long, but it is breathtakingly beautiful, which is why it attracts so much attention. Also located in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, it is a beach with enormous natural charm.
It’s also a popular spot for surfers, as it has some of the best waves in the Marvelous City. It has little infrastructure and limited parking spaces, but this natural sanctuary is well worth a visit.
Grumari
This place is in the same environmental protection area as Prainha and is considered one of the most sustainable in Rio, with a Blue Flag label and everything!
About 3km long, Grumari Beach is also a surfers ‘ spot, surrounded by hills and restinga forest.
