What do an exhibition from Bahia featuring works by Indigenous artists, a multimedia installation from Paraná, and a funk show from the Baixada Fluminense have in common? All of these attractions kick off the new program for Petrobras Futuros – Art and Technology, in Flamengo, starting this Friday.
Between August of this year and April 2027, the cultural center will bring to the city original artistic projects featuring diverse expressions of Brazilian identity, artistic languages, and technologies, promoting cultural exchange.
All of them were selected through the “Brasilidades & Futuros” open call and bring together initiatives from 12 states and five regions. And the program is completely free! Learn more!
Welcome event marks a new phase for the cultural center
To mark this new phase for the cultural center, there will be a really cool event this Friday, August 28, starting at 7 p.m.
Under the artistic direction of Batman Zavareze, visitors will be able to view two visual art installations on display in Galleries 2 and 3 of the venue through October.
First up is the Bahian exhibition “Nhe´ẽ Se – Desejo de Fala, ” featuring works by contemporary Indigenous artists. Also on display is the multimedia installation “Imunidade” from Pará, which was developed by 15 women as a collective project.
Next, the “Brasilidades & Futuros Music” Festival will kick off, bringing together musical artists from different regions of the country.
On the ground floor, at 8:15 p.m., the duo from Pará, “Uaná System,” will perform, blending carimbó, electronic music, technology, and Amazonian culture.
Next up are the DJs, MCs, and dancers from #estudeofunk with the musical theater production “Donas do Baile, ” from the Baixada Fluminense region, at the Petrobras Futuros Theater.
Music, exhibitions, and performing arts at Petrobras Futuros – Art and Technology
The “Brasilidades & Futuros Música” Festival continues on Saturday, the 29th, with two new concerts showcasing the sounds of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro.
Thus, at 8:15 p.m., the immersive audiovisual performance “De Keke!” by producer and DJ Vhoor, on the ground floor, transforms Minas Gerais funk and the experience of life in the suburbs into a live video-mapping experience.
Next, at 9:15 p.m., “Boca do Tempo, ”a solo project by musician and researcher Sergio Krakowski, uses the pandeiro as a technological interface, transforming gestures into sounds and images.
In addition to exhibitions and musical events, Petrobras Futuros also features new theatrical productions.
Kicking off the performing arts program, the adult play “Mordida Exploratória” from Minas Gerais premieres in September, bringing to the stage a reflection on consumption, memory, and the environmental crisis.
In all, there will be eight performances for adults and children, with shows running through April 2027.
All events are free, but for concerts and theatrical performances, tickets must be reserved online in advance.
