From a sketch festival to one of the biggest performing arts events in Brazil

Niterói em Cena began as a sketch festival in 2008. But over the years and eighteen consecutive editions, the festival is now one of the most important performing arts events in the country, hosting big national and international names.
So, in this edition, the program includes six acclaimed Brazilian shows, four street theater attractions (including Argentina, Peru and Chile), a Student Showcase and a Short Scenes Showcase.
There will also be a business roundtable and theatrical workshops with renowned professionals.
Niterói em Cena brings together shows from Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Peru

The Plays Showcase will feature acclaimed Brazilian shows such as “Kawó – O Rei chama”, “Policarpo Quaresma – O Musical”, “Macacos” and “Por que não nós?”.
In the Street Show, with street theater attractions, the shows also cross borders, with “Buñuelo” (Argentina), “Inka Clown Show” (Peru), “O Abrazo Girafa” (Chile) and the Minas Gerais show “Como Cozinhar uma Criança”( How to Cook a Child).

The 18th Niterói em Cena will also feature the Student Showcase, for public and private school students, as well as free theater courses.
Covering the whole of the state, the show will consist of 75 short plays of up to 8 minutes, divided into five performance shifts. The main objective is to stimulate the practice of theatrical language, offering a performance space with a professional stage structure for young beginners and amateurs.
The event also hosts the Short Scenes Showcase, made up of 15 short plays between 10 and 18 minutes. The plays show a plurality of languages, thematic diversity and regional, gender and racial representativeness.
What’s more, for the first time, Niterói em Cena will feature a business round. The idea is to promote a meeting between artists and cultural producers, theater festival curators and public and private theater programmers.

With a very varied program, Niterói em Cena will occupy different stages and streets in the city. Among them, iconic venues in the Smiling City , such as the Niterói Municipal Theater, Oscar Niemeyer Popular Theater, João Saldanha Square and Campo de São Bento.
And all the attractions at the 18th Niterói em Cena are free of charge with the donation of a kilo of non-perishable food! To attend the Mostra Peças attractions, tickets will be distributed from 6pm.
