Silent movies will be well seen – and heard! – at this movie event. It’s Mostra Cine Orquestra, which takes place from August 14 to September 6 at Cine Arte UFF. The festival presents great classics of the seventh art, but in an unprecedented way: with soundtracks created live and audience participation. Find out more!
Event features silent movie classics with live soundtracks

The purpose of Mostra Cine Orquestra is to turn each movie session into a unique, collective experience .
Thus, during four sessions, the public will be able to experience classics of the seventh art in an unprecedented way: by participating in the live creation of the soundtracks together with the Cine Orquestra group.
And how will it work? Under the direction of Taiyo Omura, the musicians and actors collaboratively create the soundtrack. According to Taiyo,
The orchestra works like a great creative organism: while the film is being projected, it will play sound and musical ideas, ‘body to body’ with the emotions and sensations that the images suggest.
Taiyo Omura also points out that, in this edition, there will be a variation in the formation of the Cine Orquestra itself. Thus, there will be two sessions with very different line-ups: one predominantly made up of women and the other with an orchestra focusing on percussion instruments.

So, if you like the idea of doing a very different and fun program on the other side of the bridge, check out the program of Mostra Cine Orquestra, which takes place from August 14 to September 6 at Cine Arte UFF.
The first day will be closed to public school students, but from the 16th onwards, the screenings will be open to the public!
- August 16, at 7pm (double screening): Charles Chaplin’s Peace Street and Buster Keaton’s Sherlock Jr;
- August 24, at 7pm: The Adventures of Prince Achmed, by Lotte Reiniger;
- 30/08, at 19h: A Page of Madness, by Teinosuke Kinugasa;
- 06/09, at 7pm: Metropolis, by Fritz Lang
In addition to the screenings, the Mostra promotes a series of free activities, including a workshop on collaborative music creation using the soundpainting technique.
Aimed at musicians of all levels, the activity encourages spontaneity, collective listening and creativity, resulting in the live composition of the soundtrack to a silent movie classic.
The program also includes a masterclass on accessibility for people with disabilities and an immersion in the editing and preparation process for one of the sessions.
