Actor and comedian Paulo Gustavo will have his story told in an immersive and moving way in this exhibition.
The exhibition ‘Laughing, an act of resistance’ is divided into five parts. Right at the entrance, the public will see the first work, a sculpture by Amilcar de Castro, over two meters high!
Then, in the other galleries, the public will see a selection of items that marked the comedian’s career. These include iconic costumes from his plays and films, works of art from his personal collection, unpublished photos and a special short film, which will be shown exclusively to visitors.
Actor died in 2021 from complications of Covid-19
The death of the comedian, who passed away in 2021 due to complications from Covid-19, moved the whole country. That’s because Paulo Gustavo was considered one of the geniuses of comedy and it was impossible not to have fun with his jokes, iconic characters and sharp commentary!
This exhibition not only recalls Paulo Gustavo’s entire career, but also pays a moving tribute to the fact that he was born and lived in Niterói and always declared himself in love with the city. Paulo Gustavo also became the name of a street in Icaraí, in the South Zone of Niterói, and also won a statue in Campo de São Bento.
The exhibition ‘Rir, um ato de resistência’ was conceived by the actor’s family, with Thales Bretas leading the project, curated by Nicolas Martin Ferreira and co-curated by Juliana Cintra.
And a curiosity: the name of the exhibition refers to one of his last statements on television, when he said that “laughing is an act of resistance”.
