Exhibition explores the differences and similarities between the two artists
Curated by Ana Roman and Catalina Bergues, the exhibition brings together paintings, prints, sculptures, and installations by two artists from different generations.
On one hand, Tomie Ohtake (1913–2015), with her constant pursuit of synthesis and focus on forms. On the other, Alice Shintani (1971), whose work focuses on expansion and displacement, using playful strategies.
Thus, the exhibition uses the geographical formationsof mountains and valleys as a metaphor to explore the differences and similarities between these two great artists.
The exhibition is divided into two galleries at Caixa Cultural do Rio
Spread across two exhibition rooms, the show features a rich variety of paintings, prints, sculptures, and installations.
In the first room, Tomie Ohtake ’s paintings and prints engage in an intriguing dialogue with Shintani’s installation *Menas*, featuring lightweight, reconfigurable structures.
Alice Shintani’s series *Raw and Cooked* transforms the passageway into a colorful, geometric journey through nineteen paintings.
In the second room, a large pictorial installation by Shintani alters the perception of the environment and shares the space with Tomie Ohtake’s tubular sculptures .
The exhibition opens at Caixa Cultural in Rio de Janeiro, at the Teatro Nelson Rodrigues venue, this Tuesday and runs through November 15.
