Cinefoot has been running for 16 years now—a festival that showcases national and international films about soccer. In addition, it offers other experiences, always guided by pluralism, diversity, and interactivity.
It’s also worth noting that Cinefoot is a pioneer in Latin America and the only festival in the country dedicated to showcasing soccer films.
Thus, the event returns for another successful edition this month, with a varied program in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. In both cities, the event promises gatherings, attractions, and plenty of festivities for lovers of cinema and sports.
Zico, Maradona, women’s soccer, and more: the Cinefoot 2026 lineup
This year, Cinefoot will feature screenings of 75 films, including national and international productions, as well as free sessions, workshops, panel discussions, and tributes.
Among the highlights, the opening night will feature the Argentine documentary “The Match, ” or “El Partido, ” which chronicles the match between Argentina and England at the 1986 World Cup.
For those who don’t remember, it was in this match that Maradona scored two goals that went down in soccer history, including the play known as the “Hand of God.”
The closing ceremony will feature a screening of the documentary “Zico — O Samurai de Quintino, ” which chronicles the life of Arthur Antunes Coimbra, known as Zico.
Throughout the festival, the special programming on women’s soccer is also worth highlighting. Debates, documentaries, and discussions with experts will explore memory, popular culture, inclusion, and the legacies of the 2027 World Cup.
In Rio de Janeiro, the event takes place from August 6 to 11 at four different venues: Estação Claro Rio, the Federal Justice Cultural Center, Ponto Cine, and the Eduardo Coutinho Cinema Theater, located inside the Manguinhos Park Library.
