Have you ever stopped to think about your consumption habits and the amount of waste you produce every day? Well, we don’t always think about it and the environmental impacts are many! That’s why Busão das Artes is touring Brazil inviting the public to rethink these issues in a sensory journey that combines art and education. Get to know this itinerant project that is coming to Rio de Janeiro.
A 15-meter truck is transformed into an exhibition space

A museum on wheels that mirrors society and camouflages itself in the urban space. This is the new season of Busão das Artes, a 15-meter box truck that transforms itself into an exhibition space and travels around Brazil.
For this edition, curated and directed by Marcello Dantas, the project presents the exhibition “Lixúria”. According to the curator,
When we look at what we discard, we see who we are as a society. The idea of the exhibition “Lixúria” is precisely to make this mirror visible and provoke reflection on our consumption and disposal habits. […]
This exhibition will feature works by visual artists Vik Muniz, Sueli Isaka, Pirilampos do Planeta, Jessica Mein, among others.
What’s on this Busão das Artes?

The immersion begins with the truck itself, which has been covered in mirror film to reflect its surroundings, almost disappearing into space and becoming a critical mirror of society.
In addition, the space is divided into internal and external environments, full of playful and sensory experiences that will surprise the public.
So, as soon as you enter Busão, you’ll be faced with the striking scenography of a patchwork of packaging lining the walls and ceiling, built from clean waste such as caps, tetrapak packaging, packages and various plastics.
In this space, Jorge Furtado’s film Ilha das Flores (1989) is also shown on a loop, inviting the public to rethink inequality, consumption and the fate of waste.
Another interesting experience is the interactive stations. One features a scale that calculates, in kilograms, the amount of waste each person will produce over the course of their lives. The other features a digital map with information about the dumps, landfills and collection points in the cities visited.
And outside, the experience continues. Galvanized garbage cans with lids around the truck hold surprises that are revealed when visitors open them!
