Get ready to embark on“A Musical Journey to Old Rio” during the first half of August! That’s because this musical journey is the highlight of the free program offered by CCBB Educativo – Lugar de Encontros starting this Friday.
This special event transforms the spaces of the Banco do Brasil Cultural Center into an unmissable journey of sound and emotion, inviting children, teens, and adults to discover the music, dances, and stories that shaped Rio de Janeiro’s culture from the late 19th to the early 20th century. A repertoire rich in history and featuring many classic songs
More than just a simple performance at the CCBB, this musical procession offers a unique experience.
Thus, the public is invited to join the educators on a journey filled with songs and rhythms that reveal the richness of this Brazilian intangible cultural heritage.
The repertoire is packed with classics, including “Isto é Bom” by Xisto Bahia; “Corta Jaca” by Chiquinha Gonzaga; “Pierrô Apaixonado” by Noel Rosa and Heitor dos Prazeres; and “Fita Amarela” by Noel Rosa, as well as traditional jongos and compositions by the educational team itself. Along the way, music and cultural mediation blend together to celebrate the city’s heritage.
According to the project’s curator, Daniela Chindler, in the digital age, a great tip is to step away from your phone screen.
“I believe that in-person adventures can be more fun than interacting with a cell phone, and they also have the advantage of being shared with others.”
CCBB’s August program goes beyond music
In addition to the musical journey “A Musical Journey Through Old Rio,” the activities atCCBB Educativo – Lugar de Encontros also engage with current exhibitions, such as “Vik Muniz – A Olho Nu” and “Banco do Brasil and Its History.”
Highlights include “Isso não é uma banana!” (“That’s Not a Banana ! ”), a perception game using ultraviolet light inspired by René Magritte, and “A Pescadora de Histórias” (“The Story Fisherwoman”), in which the character Santa Rita Pescadeira collects narratives from Brazil’s oral tradition.
