Ballet is the art that transforms movement into poetry, capable of telling stories and thrilling the audience with every leap, turn and gesture. At We call it Ballet Rio de Janeiro, you’ll experience a magical show that brings “Sleeping Beauty”, Tchaikovsky’s great classic, back to life with a unique contemporary retelling.
The story of Princess Aurora takes on a new dimension on the stage of the PRIO Theater. As the lights go down, talented dancers light up the stage in LED costumes, creating a perfect fusion between the past and the future.
What is We call it Ballet?
At the heart of We call it Ballet is the essence of ballet: telling a story through the body. A stage immersed in darkness, where the dancers, dressed in costumes illuminated by LED lights, move like characters from a shimmering dream.
Each movement, each dance step, is accentuated by a mystical glow, where the dancers’ bodies look like brushes drawing the lines of music and silence in the air, expressing the inexplicable, such as deep feelings and moments of pure transcendence.
Ballet, narration and spectacle
The show not only tells the tale of Princess Aurora and her enchanted sleep, but also explores the deepest feelings that this story awakens – the search for true love, the power of hope and the magic of dreams.
Dance becomes the main language, while the lights and soundtrack lead the audience through this journey, but for the experience to be complete and accessible to all, a narrator will make brief interventions telling about the plot of each act. The visual and auditory experience are intertwined, making the show a true work of living art, where every detail is designed to immerse the audience in the fantasy and beauty of ballet.
In addition to combining traditional ballet with futuristic visual elements, this show offers audiences a new way of experiencing ballet, whether they are experts in plié or not, We call it Ballet Rio de Janeiro is a celebration of art in all its forms.
