However, in 2025, the park set a record. In total, last year alone, there were 4,907,563 visitors—almost 5 million people who passed through there!
According to data from ICMBio, the agency responsible for managing the park, in the area surrounding Christ the Redeemer alone, visitor numbers increased by half a million between 2024 and last year.
What to do in Tijuca National Park: tourist attractions, trails, and more!

With an area of nearly 4,000 hectares, there’s plenty to do in Tijuca National Park. For starters, it’s home to Rio de Janeiro’s main and most famous landmarks.
So, you can choose between visiting Christ the Redeemer, Pedra da Gávea, Vista Chinesa, and other attractions.
Furthermore, because it covers such a vast area, you can access the park from different neighborhoods. One of the entrances is in Alto da Boa Vista, with access through the Tijuca neighborhood —which gives the park its name.
You can also access the park from Barra da Tijuca, entering via Estrada de Furnas. Plus : at Horto, there’s an alternative entrance on Rua Pacheco Leão.
Regardless of the access points, the park is surrounded by the Tijuca Forest, one of the largest replanted urban forests in the world. With such abundant nature, you can explore trails, caves, waterfalls, and lookouts, among other recreational areas.
It’s also worth noting that improvements and new investments are planned for 2026, such as the installation of elevators, a new restroom facility, an expanded security team, and a new observation deck with panoramic views. All of this is aimed at increasing visitor numbers while minimizing environmental impact.
