The International Children’s Film Festival is in its 22nd year and will be showing over a hundred films in the Gávea and Botafogo neighborhoods throughout July. In addition to the film screenings, the festival also features chats with experts in the children’s world and more. Check out more details!
In-person sessions will exclusively show feature films
The International Children’s Film Festival was conceived by actress and director Carla Camurati, who is in charge of the general direction of the show.
It’s been 22 years since the first edition of FICI and, this year, the in-person sessions will exclusively show feature films, with an emphasis on previews.
Among them, ‘Maloucos contra o Ladrão de Sonhos’, by Bruno Bennec, which celebrates imagination as a tool for transformation and reminds everyone that dreaming is always the first step towards changing the world.
In addition, ‘SIM, Viver é um Presente!’, by Luís Antônio Igreja, is the first musical feature film by the Manaká Family and shows the routine of the boy Davi in nature, with his neighbors, his school friends and his playful grandparents.
The feature films ‘Dentro da Caixinha – Mundo de Papel’, by Guilherme Reis, and ‘A mensagem de Jequi’, by Igor Amin, will also be showing. The latter portrays the daily life of a quilombola boy who learns to defend the waters where he lives.
Children will be able to vote for the best film in the online competitive showcase
In addition to the films screened in person, there will be a competitive showcase throughout FICI.
All the films that will be shown online will compete for the Best Film Award according to the Popular Jury. This way, children will be able to vote on the website as soon as they have finished watching the movie.
The short films selected for the Brazil Children’s Film Award, the festival’s competitive program, will be voted on by a specialized jury, divided into three categories: Animated Stories, a selection of 20 animations; Short Stories, with ten live-action shorts; and Mostra Teen, which includes 16 short films recommended for children over ten years old.
The best film in each category will be announced at the end of the month and will win the FICI Trophy.
Chat with experts discusses the relationship between children and Artificial Intelligence
Another highlight of the International Children’s Film Festival program is the Think Childhood Forum, which discusses the relationship between Artificial Intelligence and children.
The meeting ‘Human Emotions and Artificial Intelligence: Children and the Challenges of New Technologies’ will take place on July 10 at NET Gávea, with the participation of audiovisual directors, educators and researchers from the world of children.
All the information with more details of the program can be found on the event’s official website!
