Another Girls’ Day is coming up at MAST! Now in its 12th edition, the event features a free afternoon of activities at the Museum of Astronomy and Related Sciences in São Cristóvão, with the goal of highlighting the importance of and encouraging women’s participation in science.
This year, the theme will be “Women’s Radar: Climate Change in Rio de Janeiro—Women in Action!” Learn more!
Girls and women are disproportionately impacted by climate change
The theme of this edition is Climate Change in Rio de Janeiro, and the choice was no accident. After all, did you know that girls and women are disproportionately impacted by climate change?
This is what Josiane Kunzler, from the museum’s Science Education Coordination (COEDU) , explains. According to the coordinator, it is women who face greater poverty, food insecurity, and more violence.
On the other hand, they are the ones leading efforts to tackle the climate crisis, highlighting the importance of women not only to science but to society.
What’s happening on Girls’ Day at MAST: workshops, talks, and more!

This is already the 12th edition of the event, which offers a full afternoon of activities at the Museum of Astronomy and Related Sciences.
On this Girls’ Day at MAST, the program features the traditional Discovery Tent, with various workshops on different topics.
In addition, there will also be a guided tour of the MAST exhibition spaces. Plus: a roundtable discussion with very special guests—women who are working directly on climate change and its impacts on society.
Finally, the Sky Observation Program will feature a brand-new themed session, where the audience will learn stories about the Moon and Jupiter from a feminist perspective .
Awesome, right? So mark your calendars: on March 28, take the chance to go on a different kind of tour and explore a whole new world!
The event is completely free and open to the public!
