Starting this Friday, the popular photographer Affonso DaLua presents the exhibition “From the Mangrove to the Laje: The Enchantment of a Life in Maré.” In his first solo exhibition, the photographer brings together images rooted in his experiences in Maré and presents a visual narrative built around the encounters, paths, and landscapes that make up daily life in the neighborhood. This is because, curated by Monara Barreto, Affonso DaLua ’s photographs go beyond mere documentary record. They flirt with poetic imaginings that reveal the ways of life shaped within the community and in the daily life of Maré.

The exhibition opens this Friday
The exhibition “From the Mangrove to the Laje” kicks off Imagens do Povo’s annual program and reaffirms Galeria 535 as an indispensable hub for the dissemination and promotion of popular photographic production. Furthermore , it highlights the importance of circulating works produced by photographers from favelas and working-class neighborhoods.
The official opening takes place this Friday, June 26, at Galeria 535, starting at 6 p.m. On this day, the exhibition will feature institutional remarks, a presentation by the artist, and a guided tour to further enrich the experience. Admission is free!
