From the French Riviera to the cinemas of Rio! The French Film Festival of Brazil is about to begin, with features screened at Cannes and new productions on Brazilian soil. The festival also has special sessions with debates, virtual reality film screenings and more! Check out the program details !
French Film Festival brings new works to Brazilian audiences
Among the novelties of this 16th edition is the name of the festival. This is because the French Film Festival of Brazil is the former Varilux Festival, but now with a new identity.
According to the event’s curators, the new name better reveals the difference: being the only nationwide French cultural event !
In addition, this year the French Film Festival is presenting six feature films screened at the Cannes Film Festival in May, five of which are new to Brazil. Among the highlights are The Chef’s Secret (Partir un jour), by Amélie Bonnin, which opened the event, and Young Mothers (Jeunes Mères), by Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, which won the Best Screenplay award.
In all, 20 more films of different genres will be shown in various cinemas in Rio de Janeiro – and other regions of the country. To find out more about the full program, visit the Festival’s official website.
Tribute to Pierre Richard, screenings with guests and more!

In 2025, the French Film Festival of Brazil will pay tribute to French comedy icon Pierre Richard, who directs and stars in the also new ‘Sonho, Logo Existo’, his return to directing after almost 30 years.
At 91 and with more than 100 films under his belt, Pierre will also be here to promote his feature. In Rio, his visit is scheduled for December 4, where he will chat with the public after a screening at Cinesystem Belas Artes, in Botafogo.
Actress Isabelle Huppert will also be in the Marvelous City to present the film ‘The Richest Woman in the World’, which opens this festival in Rio de Janeiro.
The program also includes special sessions with guests and a Virtual Reality Film Showcase, with free screenings of five French creations.
The French Film Festival of Brazil takes place from November 27 to December 10 in cinemas across the country!
