With over 150 years of history, the traditional Café Lamas has been closed since a fire struck the restaurant in June. But a wave of solidarity is about to change that story. Bars in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo have joined forces in the #JuntosPeloLamas campaign to raise funds for the reconstruction of this Rio de Janeiro cultural heritage site.
#JuntosPeloLamas: Bars in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo Join Forces to Rebuild Café Lamas
Following the widespread coverage of the fire, the Pirajá Group contacted the owners of Lamas to launch a fundraising campaign with the help of journalists and other establishments.
Named #JuntospeloLamas, the campaign brings together bars in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, which will donate the proceeds from the sale of a selected dish, appetizer, or drink toward the restoration of the century-old establishment.
Meet some of the bars participating in the campaign
The support network includes 25 bars in total, 23 of which are in Rio de Janeiro and two in São Paulo. Among the Rio de Janeiro participants, Bracarense, for example, will be selling its traditional pork shank dish.
Meanwhile, Bar da Frente is featuring the “Porquinho de Quimono,” a harumaki made with pork ribs and herb-flavored cream cheese. In addition, Bar do Momo, Miudinho, Velho Adônis, and Galeto Sat’s are also participating in this initiative.
In São Paulo, Bar Pirajá is offering the classic “Filé Oswaldo Aranha,” available at its locations in São Paulo, Barueri, and Campinas. In addition, Braca Barhas also joined the effort!

A Rio de Janeiro Cultural Heritage site and Brazil’s oldest restaurant
The mobilization in support of Café Lamas reflects the establishment’s significance. With over 150 years of history, Lamas is the oldest operating restaurant in Brazil.
Furthermore, it is considered a Rio de Janeiro Cultural Heritage site and a historic meeting place for important figures from Brazil and around the world. Not to mention that its cuisine is internationally famous! Anyone who has tasted Lamas’s breaded steak with French-style sides knows exactly what we mean!
